For thirty-four years (from 1945 to 1980) he served as missionary to Quito, Ecuador with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, after which he and his wife Carol retired to Oak Island, North Carolina. He was survived by his wife, Carol, their four children, twelve grandchildren, eleven "grandchildren in-laws" and sixteen great-grandchildren.
