SHREVEPORT, LA — Services for Mr. Milton C. Chapman will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, November 30, 1990 at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. George W. Harbuck, assisted by Dr. Edward R. Thomas, former senior ministers of the Broadmoor United Methodist Church where he was a member and had served on the Board. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Chapman was born on April 19, 1903 in Shelby County, Texas and died at Schumpert Medical Center, Wednesday, November 28, after a lengthy illness. He was a charter member of Mansfield Rotary Club and a past president of Mansfield Chamber of Commerce before moving to Shreveport. A resident of Shreveport for the past 38 years, he owned and was operating his nursery and landscaping business at age 83. He was an active member of the Shreveport Order of the Elks 122 and was honored as 1981–2 "Elk of the Year." He had been an active member of the Louisiana Nurseryman's Association and was a founding member of the Ark-La-Texas Bass Club.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia W. Chapman; two sisters, Olivion Shivers of Waco, Texas and Bernice Ramsey of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, Bernard and Nina Chapman of Seligman, Ariz.; two sons, Dr. Milton C. and Betty Chapman of Shreveport, and Ronald E. and Carol Chapman of Exeter, N.H.; a daughter, Mildred C. and Rev. John O. Alston of North Litte Rock, Ark.; ten granddaughters, Patricia and Pat McConathy of Shreveport, Marcia and Dr. William H. Rotzier of Longview, Texas, Caroline V. and Ken Broussard of Arlington, Va., Mary Chapman of Washington, D.C., Rev. Ellen Alston of Hot Springs, Ark., Gayle and Tod Bohannon of North Little Rock, Ark., Cynthia and Eric Johnson, and Angela Chapman of West Monroe, La., Jennifer Chapman and Sarah Chapman of Exeter, N.H.; two grandsons, John M. Alston and North Little Rock, Ark. and David Chapman of Exeter, N.J.; and five great-grandsons, Chad, Will and Andrew McConathy of Shreveport; and Hilliard and William Rotzler of Longview, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Martin D. Allain, Dr. Harry E. Fair, Ben Van Osdell, Dr. William H. Rotzler, Patrick McConathy, Tod Bohannon, Thomas Ramsey and John M. Alston. Honorary pallbearers will be Milton McNaughton, Drs. John Underwood, William Allums, Dan Russell, Jud Tillinghast, Wade Fox and each of the many other dedicated physicians and Charles Hullaby who were involved in his care.
The family expresses deep appreciation to the nurses and staff of Schumpert Medical Center and to the Schumpert Home Health Nursing Service. Memorials are requested to be made to the Building Fund, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, or to the Development Fund, Schumpert Medical Center.
