John William Stoetzel was b. Feb. 27, 1820 in Walpersdorf, Westphalia, Prussia, Germany. He came to the U.S. in 1850. He m. Charlotte Dorothea Louisa Freitag Dec. 15, 1854 in Indiana. He d. Feb. 3, 1895 in Chicago, IL. He raised Louise's child, Frederick William Thiele as his own, having married her when Frederick was only 2 years old. John W. Stoetzel's grave marker gives his d.o.b. as 1826. From other sources, notably an obituary written in advance by John W. Stoetzel (found in Rieke Family Source Papers at the Allen County Public Library) I believe his correct d.o.b. to be 1820.
