Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, for May Ellen (Mrs. Elvin) Saville of rural Redding, at Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa, wiht burial in the Redding Cemetery. Martha Waugh and Helen Boese sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset", accompained on the organ by Mrs. Eldon Boese. The Rev. Arthur L. Hill of Mount Ayr officiated.
Casketbearers were Phil Burmeistr, Larry Giles, Larry Kimble, Ray Miller, Garry Hamilton and CHet Roed.
May Ellen Saville was born July 25, 1920 on her parents' farm near Guide Rock, Nebraska, a daughter of Wayne Sill Garrard and Verna Scott Garrard. She as reared at Guide Rock, was graduated from Eckley, Nebraska school in 1939, then took a year of normal school training at Blockton, Iowa, in order to teach school.
In the fall of 1940 she took her first teaching job at Gay Center in Taylor County, Iowa. After teaching two years at Gay Center, she taught one year at Rose Hill country school near Middle Fork and for one year taught east of Blockton; one year in Blockton; one year in Delphos. Starting in 1954 she taught 24 years in elementary education and remedial reading in the Mount Ayr community school system, until her death.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, and caring for houseplants. She continued to keep herself trained to teach, attending summer school sessions and completing her bachelor of arts degree work in elementary education at Graceland College at Lamoni, Iowa in the summer of 1977.
On April 21, 1945, she was united in mriage to Lee Elvin Saville at the Methodist parsonage at Redding, Iowa, and the couple lived in rural Redding all oftheir married life.
To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter.
Mrs. Saville was a member of the Parent-Teacher Organization, Iowa State Education Association and National Education Association.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant brother, Frankie in 1918; and a brother, Wilber, killed in Italy, November 26, 1944; on granddaughter.
Surviving are her husband, Elvin Saville at rural Redding; her sister, Vera Jane (Mrs. Leroy Waugh) of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons, Gary Elvin Saville of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Rodney Lee Saville of Maryville, Missouri; on daughter, Marcia Ellen (Mrs. Gary Reed) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; five grandchildren; one cousin, other relatives and a host of friends.
