George Melvin Alliston

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for George Melvin "Mel" Alliston on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 1:30 pm at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Rev. Chad Partain officiating.
George Melvin Alliston, 82, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
George was born in Metropolis, IL in 1938, the oldest of three children.

George graduated Community High School in Metropolis, IL in 1957.

He was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #13505, earning the prestigious rank of Fourth Degree Knight.

In 1961, he was stationed at England Air Force Base with the United States Air Force, eventually earning the rank of MSGT. He also served in the National Guard Reserves and retired in 1993. He received several awards throughout his military career.

George also worked in several hospitals and doctors' offices as a Lab Technician for more than 40 years. In his free time, he enjoyed helping his friends and church members, fishing with friends, going to the casino, and spoiling his grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George Lavern and Ollie E. Alliston, and his brother, Curtis Alliston.

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy A. Alliston, daughters, Angelia "Angie" Pharis (Bill), Wendy Alliston, and Melanie Vanderlick (Charlie); three grandchildren, Paige Maddox (Zac), Amy Girtman, and Charlie Vanderlick; one great-granddaughter, Oakley Maddox; one sister, Anita Jo Henderson of Brookport, IL; two special friends, Jillian and Corah Marcotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
