Racecar driver and mechanic. Son of Indy 500 driver Babe Stapp, he was a 12-time starter at Indianapolis, known to many as the "Big Bopper." He was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1999. He was a mechanic and car builder. He fielded sprint cars for some of the best in the era from 1965 to 1972 such as Johnny Rutherford, Larry Dickson, and Mario Andretti. He fielded Duane "Pancho" Carter from 1973 to 1980; winning two USAC National Championships in 1974 and 1976, and Carter amassed 40 wins in a Stapp-built ride.
