Carl (Tony) Akins, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at his home.
Tony was born October 29, 1943 to Carl and Delcia (Casto) Akins in Barberton and had been an area resident his entire life. He was employed by BWXT as a radiographer for 48 years. He served in the US Army Reserves and was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Barbara (Hausman); children Erin (Scott) Kipp, Carolyn Thomas, Susan (John) Jennings, Laura (Randy) Orosz, Stacy Thomas, Lisa (Scott Rybkoski) Thomas, Ryan (Janice) Thomas and Lori (Rob) Carr; 16 grandchildren; siblings Peg (John) Thursby, Terry Akins, John Akins, Diane (Joe) Dias, Cathy Franks, Bonnie (Dane) Workman.
Tony was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon.
Tony liked car shows, outdoor music, motorcycles, his own red Corvette, all classic cars, camping. He played guitar and sang at nursing homes. He would lend a helping hand to anyone.
Tony's family is grateful to Crossroads hospice for their loving and attentive care.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 5, 2021 from 4 to 7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green, entrance off Steese Road). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday April 6, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd., Uniontown OH 44685. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org.
