Richmond Montie Allen
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home for Richmond Montie Allen, Topeka. He died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at a Topeka nursing home. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral service at the funeral home.
Richmond was born on June 26, 1928, in Leon to Jerrie and Erchell Allen. He grew up in Lawrence and married Lillian Stout on Sept. 17, 1945. Richmond and Lillian moved to Topeka, where they raised their three children.
He worked for Armco Steel and retired after 30 years of service. After he retired, Richmond volunteered for the Red Cross as a driver. He also liked to deliver meals on Thanksgiving in Topeka.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; two daughters, Sandra Davern, Topeka, and Debi Vann, Greeley, Colo.; a son, Richard Allen, Topeka; three sisters, Betty Pippert, Lawrence, Delores Allen, Lawrence, and Juanita Loss, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a brother, Don Allen, Mabank, Texas.
Richmond and Lillian also have six grandchildren, Sean Davern, Seattle, Wash., Shelley Lindholm, San Diego, Teresa Herrera, Greeley, Colo., Heather Bliss, Kaneohe, Hawaii, Dustin Allen, Topeka, and Brandon Allen, Topeka. They also have two great-grandchildren, Jalen Herrera, Greeley, and Ayden Bliss, Kaneohe.
Two brothers preceded Richmond in death, Robert Allen and Orval Allen, both of Lawrence.
