Chris Andersen was born July 9, 1872 in Bronders Lev, Denmark. He passed away at his home in Elk Horn on Wednesday afternoon, January 5 at the age of 82 years. He had been in failing health the past year.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Denmark. He came to this country at the age of 19 and settled in Pennsylvania where he worked for his brother-in-law.
On December 26, 1892 he was married to Elsie Larsen. In 1900 the family went to Denmark for a visit. After their return they lived at Warren, Pennsylvania where he worked in an oil refinery until 1912 when they came to Iowa and settled on a farm near the Cuppy's Grove church. Eleven years ago, he retired and they moved into Elk Horn.
He was a transferred member of the Elk Horn Lutheran church from Immanuel Lutheran church at Harlan, where he served on the board for many years.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Arthur L. of Kimballton; Harold C. of Cuppy's Grove and Henry G. of Fort Wayne, Indiana, three grandsons and five granddaughters. An adopted daughter, Sara died six years ago.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, January 8, 1955 at 1:30 o'clock at the Jensen Funeral Home in Kimballton and at 2:00 at the Elk Horn Lutheran church. Interment was in the Cuppy's Grove cemetery. Pastor Clarence Jensen officiated. Pallbearers were V.L. Christensen, Virgil Lee, Carl Klindt, Wallace Knudsen, Eddie Olson and Harold Petersen.
