James T. Whyte, eldest son of George Edward and Mary Anna Whyte was born February 4, 1917 in Hartford County, Maryland. He departed this life April 9, 1997 at Frankford-Torresdale Hospital.
He was educated in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He served in the 366th Infantry of the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1944 and was released on an honorable discharge, 1944.
September 21, 1942, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mary E. Jones. This union was blessed with fur children, two of whom predeceased James.
Two of his favorite activities were bowling and gardening. James was a member of Bensalem Seniors Bowling League. Each year James planted a prize-winning vegetable garden.
James was a founding father of St. Matthew United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and Trustee. He also sand on the Male Chorus. James dutifully took care of the church edifice and grounds; making sure that everything was in order. James was a devout Christian, one who served God with fervor and who was always available to assist wherever and whenever needed.
He is survived by his devoted wife Mary; two daughters, Sharon Quinn and Gwenzetta Carter; two granddaughters, Anis and Ashley; and one grandson, Artiba; five sisters, Celestine Bell, Kathryn McLain, Virginia Moulden, Mary Odoms, Betty Walls, five brothers, Perry, George, Carl, Ross and Laurence; four brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
