Charles Alfred Johnson, Jr., the eighth of eight children of Charles A. Johnson, Sr. and Susie M. Anderson Johnson, was born on November 6, 1929, and departed this life on Tuesday, November 12, 1996. He was born and raised in Langhorne, Pennsylvania and was educated in the Langhorne Middletown School District.

Charles became very involved in the church at a young age and accepted the Lord as a teenager. He served wherever and whenever needed. In his church, Bethlehem A.M.E. Church, he served for forty-two years on the trustee board and was currently serving as vice chairman. He was recently honored by Bethlehem A.M.E. for his untiring and faithful service to God and the church. He served in the Korean Conflict as Corporal 1st Class and was honorably discharged from the army.

For thirty-seven years, Charles was employed by the Neshaminy School District as Head Custodian. Many of these years were spent at the Oliver Heckman School in Langhorne where he received many awards for his dedication and efficiency. He also received many awards for his high scores in bowling, his favorite pastime.

Charles was affiliated with the Optimist Club International, life member of the Bucks County Branch, N.A.A.C.P., Peace Centers of Bucks County, and Trevose Couples' Club.

He leaves to cherish his memory a beloved and devoted wife, Ernestine, two daughters, Caroline Marie Johnson of Philadelphia, Janine (Kookie) Ruth Johnson-Brookins, a resident of Atlanta, Georgia; a precious grandson, Jamel Tyree Johnson-Brookins; three sisters, Madalyn Johnson Covington, Rev. Frances Alberta Johnson Lee, Lucille Johnson Anderson; and one brother-in-law, Arthur Thompson, all residents of Langhorne.

Charles was predeceased by two sisters, Edytha J. Simpson and Gladys J. Thompson, and two brothers, George Wilbur Johnson and Dearborne Johnson. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Josephine Satterfield of Bristol, Pinkie Duncan of Langhorne, and Estella Satterfiled of Bensalem; a brother-in-law, Howard Duncan of Langhorne; and multiplicity of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Charles was a mentor and a good role model to his six Godchildren, Cynthia Cole Matthews, Stephanie L. Dorsey-Gross, Richard Fletcher, William H. Ball, Jr., Christopher Lawrence and Jill Duncan; and numerous young people in the community. This ordinary man of God lived daily as a Christian gentlemen and did things in an extraordinary manner.

One would often hear Charles say, "Step out on faith" and "Don't let anyone steal your joy."
