He was born July 30, 1938, in Meno, Okla., the son of Elmer G. and Marion Lucille Weather Munkres. A resident of Amarillo, formerly of the Hugoton area, he was a lease operator for Oxy Petroleum Co. for 23 years and had worked for Jay Hawk Pipeline for 10 years.
On Dec. 15, 1991, he married Pauline Rae Waters Ashley in Sublette. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Randall Munkres; a stepson; three daughters, including Candi Prater, Liberal, and Tina Wedel, Liberal; a stepdaughter; seven sisters, including Jenice Griesel and Bernice Crandall, both of Enid, Okla., Phyllis Holt, Hugoton, Norma Southern, Tyrone, Okla., Glenna Nix, Hugoton, and Rosa Krause, Hooker, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
