James Boyd Haney, Sr, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2021.
James was a man of many hats which came with many names, James, J.B. and Jim. "J.B." was born to Charles Wesley Haney and Evelyn Harris Haney on September 18, 1932 at Heights Hospital in Houston.
As a child he attended Memorial Elementary School, and George Washington Jr. High. He attended West End Baptist Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. From this point, a life of service to the Lord began. In the late 40's his Father opened a Grocery Store, his Uncle Jim a Feed Store and his Uncle Giles, a Dry Goods store in Waller, Texas. The family packed up and left the big City and headed to Waller.
"JB" spent his time raising chickens to sell at Haney Brothers Grocery and became a self taught butcher.
In 1950 he graduated from Waller High School and went on to attend Blinn College. While at Blinn, JB sang in the Barber Shop Quartet.
After Blinn, JB joined the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Lincoln, England during the Korean War. His job was to load bombs in aircraft. While in Lincoln, he and his buddies frequented a dance at the Lincoln Drill Hall. JB met a timid Margaret Hindmarsh and their love story began.
Jim married Margaret on August 7, 1954. He and his new bride headed back to the Great State of Texas.
While back in the states, Jim worked for his Dad in the family store and eventually moved back to Houston.
He joined the Houston Police Department following in his Father's footsteps of being on the force. He worked many extra jobs to help support his bride and their 4 children, Carol, Jimmy, Michele and Mike. Officer Haney retired after 42 courageous years of service to the City of Houston.
Jim was a member of the Waller Masonic lodge. A faithful Deacon at Lazybrook Baptist Church. A supporter of missions both locally and internationally and loved a good hymn sing or dinner on the ground.
In his later years he fulfilled a life long dream of owning a Model T. He and his friends at Space City T's would travel around Texas and talk of old times.
Jim was no stranger to adventure. He would see nothing crazy about getting up and heading to Florida in his trusty suburban to visit an old friend on a whim.
Jim had a desire to learn more about his past and would spend hours researching and learning more about his ancestors. He would visit old grave sites and would contribute to find a grave - a website devoted to helping people look for loved ones Papaw Haney- a name called by more than just his grandkids, was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He fought the good fight and he taught his family to faithfully serve the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his parents, brothers Charles Wesley Haney and Revis Haney, sisters, Thelma McCart and Betty Rochen
He is survived by his children, Carol and husband Emilio Lartigue of Jenks, Oklahoma, James Haney, Jr. and wife Laurie of Houston, Michele and husband Paul Sanford of Vienna, Virginia, and Michael Haney and wife Kim of Houston. Also survived by his grandchildren, Michele and husband Russell Bryan, Jonathan Lartigue and wife Andrea, Troy Haney, Elizabeth and husband Mark Leitko, Nicholas Haney and wife Nikole, Brittany Richey and husband Andrew, Melissa Sanford and fiancé Joseph Folds, Ben Sanford and Matthew Sanford. And his 8 great grandchildren Luke and Beau Leitko, Baron Bryan, Harper and Jackson Lartigue, Weston and Brinlyn Richey, and Magnolia Haney and Millie on the way.

Officer Haney, who was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force, joined the Houston Police Department on September 14, 1959, Academy Class #22. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Special Operations Division, Central Division and the South Central Division until his retirement on February 9, 2002
