Graveside services for Ruey I. Champion, 93, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Hardy Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Champion died Monday, June 8, 1998, at her home.

She was born March 6, 1905, in Leavenworth County, the daughter of George Tarr and Grace Quesenbury. She attended elementary school in rural McLouth. She and her husband farmed in McLouth. She retired in 1968 and moved to Babcock Place in Lawrence in 1987.

She was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church. She was also a charter member of the Neighborhood Circle Club in the Woodstock area study group, and Republican Women.

She married Frank Smithfield Champion on Oct. 31, 1926, in Oskaloosa. He died Jan. 21, 1980.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Peine, McLouth; four sisters, Iva Torneden, Oskaloosa, Sylvia and Norma Tarr, both of Leavenworth, and Zelma Sanders, McLouth; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
