Charles William (Bill) Miller, 83, of Ashland, passed away Saturday morning, February 13, 2021 at Crystal Care Center in Ashland.

Bill was born May 10, 1937 in Perrysville, Ohio the eldest son of George William and Grace Leota (Haws) Miller. He had four siblings, Robert George (Sandra) Miller of North Carolina, Beverly Ann Heuss (deceased) of Mansfield, Barry Wayne Miller (deceased) of Perrysville, and Benny Lynn Miller (Darlene) of Mansfield.

He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in October of 1955, was a Sea Bee and was discharged as a disc jockey in September of 1959.

Bill was employed by WNCO Radio, was hired by the State as a dispatcher (ODOT)and later became a member of the survey crew. He was then hired by Raike’s Associates as a survey crew member, later hired by Grindle & Bender as a party chief and retired as a Valley City Steel employee.

He was a member of the Ashland Jaycees, Nankin Lions Club, Ashland County Chapter of Genealogy (a lifetime member), Nankin Federated Church nka Nankin Community Church where he served as the treasurer for several years, was a greeter, usher and lay speaker for the church.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was also a part-time deputy for the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department. He also enjoyed walking the cemeteries and photographing headstones and posting them on Find A Grave.

Bill married the love of his life, Nancy Carole Swineford. The couple had three sons. Mark Alan (Trina) Miller, James Michael (Birgit) Miller and David William (Jennifer) Miller. He had 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, Robert George (Sandra) Miller, Benny Lynn (Darlene) Miller and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services held. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery Columbarium.
