Barbara Schaefer Alden, 92, of City of Clifton, N.J., died peacefully in her home on Oct. 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. There will be a memorial gathering on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, N.J. on Friday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. A repast will follow the service in the parish hall. All are welcome to attend. Born in 1924 and raised in the Borough of Glen Ridge, N.J., Barbara was predeceased in 2003 by her husband of 55 years, Harry Ray Alden. Barbara and Ray raised their six children in Nutley, where they lived for many years. Barbara is survived by her six children, Marcia (Ray) Napolitano, Mary (Steve) Johnston, Peggy (Ken) Grimshaw, James (David DeSmith) Alden, Judi (Mike) Chastain, Sarah (Dave) Sorensen, as well as her loving niece and "unofficial" sixth daughter, Chris (Fred) Czerwinski. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Molly Rose, Katie, Kelly, Jessica, Paul, Katherine, Michael, Samantha, Matthew, Jack, Taylor and Beth, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Everett, Elliott, Robyn, Mia, Kasper, Frankie, and Wilbur. Barbara was also blessed by the love and presence of her group of dear friends, who lived in the same apartment building in Clifton. In lieu of flowers, donation made to either Grace Episcopal Church, Nutley. 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, N.J. 07010
