Steven Earl Prather (Steve) passed away in Kosciusko, MS on January 24, 2021. He is survived by his brother, Bill Prather and his family, who live in the Seattle area.
Steve was a champion of living a full life despite Downs Syndrome with the love and support of his extended family. Steve was born to Earl and Etoile Prather in Birmingham, AL on May 28, 1955. He lived most of his life in Jackson. His parents devoted themselves to his care, providing every opportunity for a full and rich life, and to promoting acceptance of those with Downs Syndrome.
Steve was a lifelong member of and served in Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson. He was embraced by this congregation who loved and cared for him all of his life. He always had a smile for everyone. THANK YOU to that congregation for their loving, lifelong embrace of Steve.
After the passing of his parents, Steve moved to a group home in Kosciusko, MS for the last years of his life. This provided Steve with the care he needed and with new opportunities. The staff at this facility has been an enormous blessing to Steve and his family and I’d like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU.
The memorial service details are as follows: Sunday, January 31st, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Lakewood Funeral Home, located at 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS 39209 In addition, there will be a closed casket visitation at 1:00 pm at Lakewood.
In recognition of the risks from the current pandemic, there will be a limited service in the Lakewood Chapel with no public graveside service. Masks are required. Lakewood adheres to strict COVID-19 guidelines.
