He was born in Centre, Alabama to the late, Robert & Lula Belle Walker Hester and had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life.
He was of the Baptist faith and retired from Dixie Portland Flour Mill in 1979 after more than 34 years of service as an Operator.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family & friends and loved to play Rook.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother that will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Wayne Gore; grandson, Travis Gore; son-in-law, Rick Shrader; special brother-in-law, Frank Chapman and four brothers, Bobby Hester, Edward Hester, Howard Hester and William Donald Hester.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 59 years, Florence Cleon Chapman Hester; daughters & son-in-law, Beverly West, Donna & (David) Britton and Robin Shrader; brother & sister-in-law, Larry & (Ann) Hester; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Chapman; 7 grandchildren, Chris Gore, Kelly Adams, Brad Dupree, Brenna Defoor, Ricky Shrader, Tiffany Grover and Kayla Gore; several great grandchildren and numerous extended family & friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregiver, Brian Dunn from Amedisys, as well as, Mary Cope, Lloyd, Mitchell, Michael, Zach and Chris Chapman for their love and assistance with “Pete” during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2021 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel.
A Private burial will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 22nd in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday and prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
