Thank you so much Tim & Tammie for sponsoring Susan. You are so thoughtful dear friend. She was the daughter-in-law of family friend.

Susan Baca (Smith), 47, passed away at her home in Burleson, Texas, in early January, 2021, due to complications from glioblastoma brain cancer. Susan was born in 1973 to Jeanne and Tom Smith. She graduated from what is now known as Legacy High School in Midland, Texas. She then attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, obtaining a degree in Special Education. She went on to teach special education classes for many years in Everman, Texas, before leaving to be a stay-at-home mom. She is survived by her parents, her husband Brooks, their daughter Ella and son Zane, as well as a brother, Mark and wife Gretchen, and sister, Stacey and husband Adam, and many nieces and nephews. To know Susan was to love her. Anyone who knew her will be smiling at just thinking of her friendly, genuine spirit, and her easy-going kindness and selflessness toward everyone she met. Maybe the first thing that might come to mind is her voice--her uniquely accented, agreeable, warm blanket of a voice. We will all miss hearing it very much. Susan was curious, easy to laugh, so comfortable to be with. From her earliest days she displayed a wish to care for all living things, especially those most in need of that care. To her parents' dismay but ultimate acceptance, Susan brought home stray cat after stray cat, eventually persuading her parents to keep many of them as pets over the years. Starting from her elementary school years, Susan kept and cared for multitudes of cats, dogs, turtles, snakes, fish, rabbits, and more. She passed along this love to her children, encouraging and supporting Ella and Zane's interests in raising show pigs and a rabbit through agricultural science programs. Susan was very active in supporting her kids' other activities as well, most notably soccer and football. She also found time to help with Meals on Wheels every week for over eight years. The pain of Susan's sudden diagnosis and battle with cancer have given way to realizations of how lucky we all have been to have her in our lives, and a wish to celebrate her beautiful and generous spirit. If you wish to honor her, donations of time or money could be made to a local Meals on Wheels program or animal rescue organizations.
