Janet Theresa Johnston
Janet Theresa Johnston Passed away on Friday, October 5, 2007 surrounded by family and friends. Janet was born on September 28, 1947 in Lafayette, LA, the daughter of Guy and Mary Etta Johnston. She attended high school at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA, graduating in 1965. She then began a lifelong habit of embarking on new adventures, and left the deep south for her college education at Manhattenville College in White Plaines, NY. After working in New York City for a few years, she joined other free spirits in SF and made it her home. Janet was employed with the SF Symphony, and then accepted a position in the front office of the SF Opera, where she worked for 20 years. Janet lived passionately for 60 years. She faced obstacles greater than most of us could imagine. After surviving breast cancer 10 years ago she continued to always approach life with joy, never flinching at difficulties. She loved travel, the theater, opera and music of all kinds. Janet will be remembered for many things, perhaps the most important of which were her generosity of spirit and kindness. Janet was also a talented actress, performing with Theater RHINO, The Marsh and SF Playhouse. Janet leaves behind many friends, old and new. Survivors include her brother, Thomas Tucker Johnston and his wife Shirley; and sisters, Catherine C. Bordner and her husband David, Mayette Johnston, and Victoria Loubiere and her husband Max. A casual gathering will be planned to celebrate Janet's life. She will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions may be made to Commonweal: www.commonweal.org
