Dr. David Bilby Moss, age 80, died peacefully in Grace Memory Care Unit, Ohio Living Mount Pleasant on December 18th, 2020 in Monroe, Ohio.

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene J. McAfee Moss, children Stephen D. Moss (Jennifer Darling), Bryan D. Moss, Hilary J. Houff (Michael Houff), and Heidi C. Macy (Noah Macy), grandchildren Makenzie, Benjamin, Rogan, Tyler and Brandon, parents-in-law Charles C. and Dorothy J. (Phillips) McAfee, sister-in-law Rogene D. Moss and many other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by parents Raymond D. and June I. (Bilby) Moss, of Wahpeton, ND, brother Richard D. Moss of Long Prairie, MN, and brother-in-law Charles Craig McAfee of Mason, Ohio.

David was born on July 2, 1940 at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, MN. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1958. He received his A.A.S. at North Dakota State School of Science in 1960, a B.S. (Chemistry) from North Dakota State University in 1962, an M.S. from John Carroll University in 1966, and a Ph.D. (Analytical Chemistry) from Wayne State University in 1970. He married Charlene J. McAfee on June 29, 1968 at Sharonville Presbyterian Church in Sharonville, OH. David taught Analytical Chemistry at Hiram College, Hiram, OH for 43 years. He retired as Professor Emeritus. David enjoyed waterfowl hunting, fishing, Civil War History, Western American Art and eating chocolate. He played the trombone, sang the bass part in church choir, and he was active in Boy Scouts of America, both as a youth and an adult leader.

Visitation and graveside service will be private, arranged by Hodapp Funeral Home, West Chester, OH. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram, OH.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, or Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties (make check payable to Hospice of Dayton Foundation, please write David Moss in memo line). Mail to: Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420.
