Son of Andrew Forest Johnson and Clara Olive (Welch ) Johnson. Husband of Leota Close and later Pansy Goodson. Father to Linda Johnson and Cynthia Lynn Johnson.
John was born in Vernon Texas January 18, 1929 and raised in Lockett, TX just west of Vernon. John joined the Army Infantry after graduating from High School where he served for 18 months. 13 of those months, he was stationed in Korea as part of the Japanese Occupation Force. He then attended college at Texas Tech. University. While at Texas Tech., he joined the Air Force ROTC. John was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in 1951. His duties in the USAF included one year as a Supply Officer in Iceland. He returned to the States serving with the Military Air Transport Command as a Ground Training Officer and a Navigator on both KC97 and KC135 refueling Aircraft, accumulating 6258 flying hours. John served at the AFROTC at Southwestern Louisiana as an Instructor and Dispatch Officer. He retired after serving for 20 years with the rank of Major.
John was preceded in death by his mother Clara Welch Johnson and father Andrew Forrest Johnson. His beloved wife of nearly 35 years, Pansy Privitt Johnson, preceded him in 2014. John is survived by his two daughters - Charisma Danziger and Linda Krystl Johnson of San Francisco, CA - three step-children Hugo Privitt of Dallas, TX, Roger Privitt of Plano, TX, Kay Baum of Lakeland, FL - nine step-grandchildren Tony Privitt, Heather Finch, Hayley Zacha, Taylor Privitt, April Gutierrez, Kati Walker, Brittany Hufferd, Savannah Baum, Marci Roberts and several great-step-grandchildren.
John's services will be held at 2 pm, January 23, 2021 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland, Rd, Dallas, TX 75218. He will be buried immediately following the service at Grove Hill Cemetery (Laurel Garden), 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
