Lily was a Bichon Frise born under the care of breeders Gloria and Malcolm DuBois in Granby, Connecticut. On November 27, 2004 she was adopted by the Deion family, which took Lily to her new home in Cranston, Rhode Island. Her addition made it a household of five, including her Momma and Daddow and their children Kurt and Olivia, ages ten and seven.

Early on, Lily engaged in some typical puppy mischief. She teethed on several of Kurt's action figures, and she also liked to chew on gel insoles she retrieved from her Gram's shoes when she visited her house. Though Lily eventually outgrew those habits, her love of chewing discarded tissues and paper towels remained a favorite hobby for much of her life.

One of Lily's favorite spots in the Deion house was atop the back of the leather couch in the living room. Its positioning by the front windows provided Lily with the opportunity to survey her kingdom. From her perch she barked at approaching animals and delivery drivers, and it was where she ritualistically waited for Kurt and Olivia to alight from the bus in the afternoon when they were of school age. Similarly, she greeted her Momma from the top of the basement stairs when she returned from work each evening.

Lily enjoyed attention and physical contact -- belly rubs, head scratches, kisses, and group hugs in particular. When she was picked up to participate in a group hug, she made a contented noise and licked the face of each of the embracing family members. On nights spent watching television, Lily frequently lay down so she could lean against one of her human's legs, especially her Daddow.

Like any canine, Lily was ever vigilant about food. Just as scientist Ivan Pavlov's dogs salivated at the sound of a ringing bell, Lily would journey to the kitchen any time she heard the refrigerator's cheese drawer open, hoping she would receive a treat or that a morsel would be accidentally dropped on the floor. Though her family tried to abstain from feeding her too much human food, she enjoyed occasional treats like cheese or swordfish. Her Gram and Gramps liked to feed her Cheerios as a snack when she visited them during Boston Red Sox baseball games. On one occasion, she uncharacteristically dove at Kurt's plate and successfully snatched his hard boiled eggs. Another time, when Olivia was distracted and away from the kitchen, Lily jumped onto the table and buried her head in a Tupperware container filled with sweet and sour meatballs.

When it came time to sleep, Lily had a plethora of locations around the house from which to choose. Most often she snoozed on her blue bed to the left of the fireplace or in her cushioned kennel in the laundry room. Sometimes she preferred the living room love seat or couch, adjusting a quilt sewed by Great-Aunt Rose until its positioning met her standards of comfort. A large stuffed animal dog named Patrick kept on the computer room love seat was another frequent resting place, though typically in the day time. On many a night, when Kurt was heading to his bedroom, Lily would follow him to the stairs and whine if he did not carry her up with him. If he did, she usually set about licking his bedroom carpet or a blanket before she settled down for the night in the middle of his twin bed.

There is not enough storage space on the internet to allow for a complete and proper encapsulation of Lily's life, but everything about her -- that which has been mentioned and that which has not -- was wonderful.
