Wife of Wallace Warren Shaffer, Elma Fay Beal was one of three triplets born to Frank and Ethel Galvin Beal, born at home, east of Fort Scott, Kansas. This was the first set of triplets to be recorded in Bourbon County Kansas.

FORT SCOTT - Elma Fay Eshelbrenner, 80, Fort Scott, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Olathe Medical Center following a two-week illness.

She was born Jan. 14, 1925, to Frank W. Beal and Ethel M. Galvin Beal, and was one of the first registered triplets in Bourbon County.

She was a 1943 graduate of Fort Scott High School.

She also graduated from Cosmetology School and worked with the homebound and nursing home clientele.

Mrs. Eshelbrenner was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an active lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, past matron of Olive Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and held a dual membership in the Eldora Chapter No. 42, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a past royal matron of Regal Court, Order of Amaranth, and a past worthy high priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and the Order of the Beauceant of Iola.

She and her husband were part of a senior citizens dance group that danced Monday nights in Fort Scott and Sunday afternoons at the American Legion in Pittsburg. She was also active in the Senior Citizens Bowling League.

She married Wallace F. Shaffer on Feb. 24, 1945, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1997.

She married Albert Eshelbrenner on Dec. 13, 2000, and he survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Ronald R. Shaffer of Lakewood, Colo., and William W. Shaffer of Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters, Carolyn G. Mason of Ochlocknee, Ga., and Jane Roper of Pueblo West, Colo.; two stepsons, Albert Eshelbrenner Jr. of Pittsburg, and Richard Eshelbrenner of Plano, Texas; two stepdaughters, Barbara Hagood of Medicine Lodge and Rosemary Ballweber of Carthage, Mo.; a brother, Elmer Beal of Fort Scott; a sister, Ada Beal of Fort Scott; five grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald Shaffer; a grandson, Chad Peterman; two brothers, Edward Beal and Homer Beal; and three sisters, Elva Beal, Anna Lucille Beal and Helen Frisbie.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Watson officiating.

Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, Fort Scott.
