Francis James Hargraves Abeling of The Villages, Florida passed away on October 30, 2020, at the age of 89. Francis died peacefully with his beloved wife Carol Jean, of 63 years, and family by his side.
Francis was born in Amsterdam, New York, February 2, 1931, to John Agustus Abeling and Edna VanVliet Abeling. He graduated from Wilber Lynch High School in Amsterdam, New York. Francis began his career with General Electric, Schenectady, NY. Francis married Carol Jean Ahlgren in 1957, in Amsterdam, where they had two children. He then moved with General Electric to Burlington, VT. He then moved on to General Dynamics in Groton, CT. He returned with Carol Jean to NY, raised his two children in Salt Point, NY, while working for and then retiring from IBM after 26 years as a programmer.
Francis enjoyed sports, was an avid bowler and golfer, and was known for his great sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Jean; son Mark David Abeling and his wife Jean Lospitalier Abeling; daughter Dr. Lin Abeling Severance, husband Craig Severance and grandson Cameron Kyle Severance; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Francis will be remembered in a private ceremony.
