Hanoverian Military Officer. He joined the military at the age of 12 years-old and rose rapidly in rank. He wounded badly during the French Revolution, but went to England after his recovery. He was killed at the battle of Waterloo after being ordered by the Prince of Orange into a counter-attack in column with the 5th Line Regiment to retake La Haye Sanite, he had been shot at point blank range. The Farm of La Haie Sainte was a key position in the battle of Waterloo. The French finally wrested it from its German and Dutch defenders in the evening of 18th June, but it was already too late to assist the French position. Two thousand Frenchmen died in the attack, and only 42 survived of the thousand defenders. A total of over 4,000 cavalrymen and soldiers were said to have been buried in the communal grave opposite the farm after the battle.
