Buddy was the son of Miles P. Martin and Ruth P. Martin, the beloved brother of Ruth V. Martin all of Newport News VA. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on September 13 1966 in Richmond VA and in Vietnam he served with Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
