Beloved father, cherished grandfather and friend of many, Jerry "Tap" Armstrong, age 76., passed away in Longview, Texas on September 18, 2020. He was born on October 22, 1943 in Marshall, Texas to Jake ands Christine (Waldrop) Armstrong. Tap is preceded in death by his parents, James and Christine Armstrong, his infant brother; his brothers, Tommy Armstrong and Judge Armstrong and his sister, Geneva Armstrong. His is survived by his daughter and her mother, two grandaughters; sister, five nephews and numerous other family members and friends who knew and loved him.

Tap graduated from Marshall High School, Marshall, Texas in 1963 and proudly served his country in the National Guard for eight years. He owned and operated Armstrong Wrecker Service until 1996 when his nephew took over the business. He served Harrison County as Precinct #4 County Commissioner, retiring at age 50 from Texas Department of Transportation. He served as Past Worthy Master of Masonic Blue Lodge, was actively involved with the Demolays, and was a member of the Sharon Shrine where he enjoyed participating in their go-cart division. His nephews were responsible for his love of dirt track racing and mud hogging with friends. He also loved rodeos, riding horses, hauling cattle and spending time with his family.

Rev. Bob Bryant officiated at the services held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Meadowbrook Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Cal Gaines, Steve Roberts, Bubba Lawrence, James Roberson, Steve Phelps and Jerry Foley.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Alison Morgan with Our House in Longview; to Patti and Caitlyn, and to Traditions Hospice for the care and love shown to Tap. They would also like to say how grateful they are for the friendship between Tap and Al Stakes. He was the best friend, buddy and neighbor.

Tap's life was well-lived, he was well-loved and he will be deeply missed by all who were blessed by his friendship and love.
