Forest Ray "Tod" Roop was one of the original health nuts, long before that term was coined. He was very concerned with eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise, and never would have dreamed of smoking or purposefully ingesting noxious substances into his body. By all rights, he should still be alive today, a shining example of what clean living can accomplish. It is very ironic that he should have been felled in his prime by an illness, but I guess that proves nothing in life is for certain.

Cause of death: cerebral embolus; secondary cause of death was Influenza Meningitis, onset 1 March 1943.

Forest Ray Roop, 25, of Lima Route 4, died in Memorial hospital at 2 p.m. Friday following an illness of five days.

Born April 18, 1917 in Lima, he had resided in the Lima area all of his life and was an employe [sic] of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co. and also was a member of the Grace Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons, Richard and Donald, both at home, a daughter, Margaret Jean, also at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Roop, 618 S. Central-av; four sisters, Mrs. Lenore Thompson, Mrs. Boneda Miller, both of Wellsburg, W. Va., Mrs. Dorothy Wilson of 806 Weadock-av, Mrs. Mary Courtney of 425 N. Kenilworth-av; and three brothers, Willard and Kenneth, both of Troy, and Robert of 618 S. Central-av.

The body will remain at the Chiles and Son funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Boy Born After Father's Death

The birth of a child in St. Rita's hospital and the death of the child's father in Memorial hospital in the same day, were reported Saturday by hospital attaches.

The father, Forest Ray Roop, 25, of Lima Route 4, died at 2 p.m. after a week's illness. He had worked last Sunday at the Westinghouse plant, where he had been employed for three months, and became ill Monday. He was removed to the hospital Thursday.

His wife, Margaret, suffering from shock on learning of his death, was removed to St. Rita's hospital and gave birth to a son at 10:48 p.m. Her condition was reported improved late Saturday and hospital attaches said the baby was sound and healthy.

The couple had two sons, Richard and Donald, and a daughter, Margaret Jean.

Funeral services for Roop will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Chiles and Son chapel. Rev. E. J. A. St. Louis, pastor of the Grace Methodist church, of which Roop was a member, will conduct the final rites. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

The body will remain at the funeral home until time of burial.
