M. Rosalie Cowan, 79, of Bartlesville, died Sunday in Dallas, TX.
Rosalie was born the daughter of William Calvin Diehl Sr. and Beulah (Scott) Diehl on February 16, 1938, in Tulsa, OK. The family moved to Bartlesville when she was 12; her father was employed with Phillips Petroleum Co. and her mother became the Washington County Health Dept. nurse. Rosalie graduated from College High in 1956. She met John D. Cowan at the First Assembly of God Church at 3rd and Virginia, and they went together two years before uniting in marriage on June 9, 1956 while John was on leave from the U.S. Air Force.
Rosalie and John made their first home in Peru, Indiana, until being reassigned to Clovis, NM. After his honorable discharge in 1959 they moved back to Bartlesville. Rosalie’s first paid job was as the secretary of the First Assembly of God, next she worked as the bookkeeper for Benson Lumber and then the Examiner-Enterprise before running for Washington County Court Clerk. John and the girls were instrumental in walking the streets and campaigning for Rosalie and they were her biggest supporters.
Rosalie loved the Lord and her church family. Over the years, she’s been a faithful volunteer and once retired she helped in the church office every Tuesday. She loved to travel - John and Rosalie visited 49 states in the union and she always remembered well that John visited the 50th state Alaska without her. Rosalie was a big OU fan and over the past 40 years attended home games and many of the bowl games. The most memorable bowl game was the Rose Bowl and Tournament of Roses Parade they attended in 2003. Boomer Sooner!
Rosalie is survived by her loving husband John of the home; two daughters, Gayla Pickle of Norman, and Cindy Freeman and Jerry of Bethany; and one sister Linda Gonzi of Dayton, NV. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lt. Col William Calvin Diehl Jr. and Bob J Diehl; and one beloved grandson Alan Pickle.
