Grace Estelle Jeter-Thornton, lovingly called "Amazing Grace" by her family or Gracie by her friends, was born August 13, 1938 in Sparta, Virginia to the late William Jeter and Sadie Beasley-Jeter.

Grace received her early education at Jerusalem School in Sparta, Virginia. She later relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where she received her higher education at Dunbar High School. She was employed by Time Finance Company as a secretary and continued her employment, with customer service being her background.

Grace loved cooking, dancing, lip syncing (thinking she knew the words to every song) her favorite song, "Have You Seen Her" by The Chi-Lites, playing solitaire, bid whist, bingo, fishing, riding motorcycles, home improvement and Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Grace is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Thornton, sisters, Katie M. Hill and Elizabeth Gross, brothers, William O. Jeter and George O. Jeter and longtime companion Earl Maccabee.

Grace leaves to cherish her amazing memories: daughters, Inez Jeter and Lawynne Anderson; her dear and loving brother, Franklin O. Jeter (Bonnie) grandchildren, Kenya Rock, Antonio Anderson, Jacobi Scovens and Hysuan Hazelwood; great grandchildren: Adam Brandford, Malik Brandford, Dayon Coleman, Deyon Coleman and Alaia Anderson; great great grandchild, Sion Brandford; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Margaret Mitchell and Gloria Blair.
