Viola McKay, 100, of What Cheer, died Wed., Feb. 22, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She was born Dec. 23, 1888, in Hamlet, Illinois, to Alvin W and Susie Wagner Murdock. She had lived in What Cheer and Gibson since 1937. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Royal Neighbors of America. She married William McKay on Dec 23, 1909 in Millersburg, Illinois. He died in June of 1961. She is survived by four daughters, Alberta Lewis and Irene Baxter of What Cheer, Kathleen Dillin of Marengo, and Harriett Caswell of Newton; 27 grand children, 53 great grandchildren, and 21 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sat., Feb 25, at Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer, the Rev Charlie Bywaters officiated. Burial was in the Sixteen Cemetery in Thornburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four sons, Maynard, Walter Eugene, Ralph, and William; and two daughters, Virginia Frazier and Mildred Koehn, and five grandchildren and four sisters.
