NOTE:
He was the stepfather of author Nella Larsen.

Peter Larsen immigrated to the United States in the 1880s from Denmark, settling in Chicago where he met fellow Danish immigrant Pederline Marie Hansen who had born a daughter in 1891 in Chicago by her 1st husband/partner Peter Walker, a mixed race Afro-Caribbean immigrant from the Danish West Indies [today the U.S. Virgin Islands] .

The girl Nella Walker who later took her stepfather's last name Larsen, grew up to be a nurse and a writer, known as Nella Larsen.

In 1892, Pederline Marie Hansen aka Mary bore a daughter by Peter Larsen; she was named Anna Elizabeth aka Lizzie (married name Gardner).

The couple married six years later, in 1898 in Chicago.

In 1924 they relocated to the city of Santa Monica in Los Angeles County.

NOTE on Nella:
She eventually settled in New York City, and also lived in Nashville and in Copenhagen, Denmark for longer periods of time.

NOTE on Anna:
Anna Elizabeth Gardner nee Larsen died in 1976 in Los Angeles at which time she was divorced from George Gardner Sr. with one adult son George Gardner Jr. Anna suffered from multiple sclerosis aka MS and was cared for by her mother for a number of years.

Peter and Mary separated in 1934, but on his death certificate he is listed as still married.

Peter was living at 9005 Cynthia Street in West Hollywood at the time of his death at Hollywood Leland Hospital on January 26, 1945 from pneumonia and cancer of the larynx. He was a retired street car operator for the electric railway.

Peter was buried on January 29, 1945.

Mary was buried next to Peter in 1951.

Their graves are not marked by a stone or a plaque since neither was purchased after their burials.

NOTE: In U.S. records, his last name Larsen was often spelled Larson, either by choice or by mistake.
