Barbara R. August (nee Tizio) passed away peacefully on
August 13, 2020. She was the devoted mother of Kristin August
and Mark Tartaglione. She is also survived by her beloved sister
Jane Tizio of Winchester VA, her brother Bart Tizio and his wife
Deborah, of Allentown PA, 5 nieces and nephews and 10 great-
nieces and nephews. She was the cherished God-mother of
Renee LoGrande. She is also survived byher ex-husband
Ken August, and many loving cousins and friends.
Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1944. She then lived in
New Orleans for a short time while her father, a U.S. Navy airplane
mechanic, was stationed there. When WWII ended her parents,
Bart and Marie Tizio, returned to Brooklyn where Barbara was raised.
She graduated from New Utrecht High School and then attended the
School of Visual Arts in NYC. She met and married Ken August, while
working at Crane and Canton.
Although they later divorced, they remained very close friends
throughout her life. She remained in Brooklyn until she moved to
Staten Island in 2008.
She had many jobs over her life but did not find her career until
she began working at Dial 7 Car and Limousine Service. Shebegan as
a phone operator, then worked her way up to Executive Assistant and
stayed with the company for over 30years. Barbara was like part of the
family, and remained that way even after her retirement.
She loved cooking, old movies, the Yankees and spending time
with her children. She was a generous woman, and tried to help
those close to her whenever she could.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 8/30, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Due to the current health crisis the number of visitors into the
funeral home will be limited and all visitors must wear a mask.
