Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Wynndale Baptist Church in Terry, Mississippi for Steven Armon Acton, 30, who died Monday, September 3, 2007 at 4:00 a.m. in a work related underwater accident.
Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Jackson, Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife, Somer Cook Acton, of Rayne; parents, Kenneth and Janice Acton, of Byram; one brother, Hugh Acton and wife, Rachel, of Heidelberg; mother-in-law, Sheryl Cook of Deer Park, Wash.; father-in-law, Rick Cook of Deer Park, Wash.; maternal grandparents, Hugh and Pat Woten of Jackson; sister-in-law, Alisha Cook of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Keith Cook of Cincinnatti, Ohio; one nephew, Arthur Acton of Heidelberg; four nieces, Ellie Acton and Jane Acton of Heidelberg, Jocelyn Cook and Ashley Cook, of Spokane, Wash.; their two dogs, Lucy and Preacher.
The family requested that the visiting hours with them will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
Steven was born March 23, 1977 in Jackson. He was an adventurer from the beginning. A youth he spent his time surrounded by friends and he enjoyed working as a lifeguard at the local water park. He graduated high school in 1995, from Byram Attendance Center.
Steve wishing to serve his country followed in his father's footsteps and enlisted with the Army in January 1996. In the service he earned both his airborne and ranger tabs. He was honorably discharged from Fort Lewis, Wash., May 6, 1999.
In 2000, Steve met the love of his life, Somer Cook. He received his diploma from the Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle, Wash., February 2002. He moved to Louisiana in March 2002, to begin a career in commercial diving. Somer joined him in the fall of 2002, and they moved to Cecilia, La. It was at this time that their two dogs, Lucy and Preacher, entered their lives and became essential additions to their family. Steve lived life to the fullest with both new friends and old.
In 2007, Steve and Somer bought their own home in Rayne, La. On August 4, 2007, they were married at Somer's childhood home outside of Spokane, Wash. On Labor Day he lost his life in a work related underwater accident.
