JOYCE MARIE "DIXIE" SMITH MURPHY, age 75, Judy Ridge Road, Cynthiana, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born in Pike County, December 5, 1930, to the late Omer and Fannie May Smith, she was a former cook at Westside Elementary School. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty three years, Harvey Murphy; a brother, Omer Smith, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Gugelchuk and a great grandson, Tyler Crosthwaite.
She is survived by five sons, Tom (Barb) Murphy, John (Sheila) Murphy and Joe Murphy, all of Scott County and Bob Murphy and Omer (Kathy) Murphy, both of Harrison County; three brothers, Herbert (Margaret) Smith, Michigan and Curtis Smith and Onis (Dixie) Smith, both of Pike County; two sisters, Mary Jane Smith and Fonnie (Richard) Kincaid, both of Raceland; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Pythian Grove Cemetery by Bro. Jeff Robinson. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
