Sherrill married Sally Johnson on October 16, 1926 in Brownwood, Texas. Sherrill and Sally adopted a daughter from a family of four children, a sister and brother-in-law of Sherrill adopted another child leaving the remaining two for another Corpus Christi family.
Sherrill was a concrete finisher and was especially adept at sidewalk work. Sherrill suffered from high blood pressure and congestive heart failure and died on November 24, 1958. He is buried at Seaside Memorial Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
