Donald was born in Fullerton, California, and was raised in Arizona. He married Betty Ann Nelson on August 13, 1937. He owned and operated many grocery stores in Arizona. He was the Advertising Manager for Associated Grocers and Past President of Arizona Retail Grocers. He and his wife moved to Salem in 2002. Donald was well known throughout Arizona for his artistic ability, especially his paintings. He was a member of Shriners, Masons, and the Don's Club of Arizona. Donald was an active member of Chapparel Christian Church in Scottsdale, Arizona and was an avid reader. His wife, Betty Ann, died in May.

Survivors include his sons, Don and wife Ann Titchenal of Salem and Ted, and wife Judy of Gilbert Arizona; daughter Christine Titchenal of Montpelier, VT; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
