Archie A. Whitehead, 83, of Lorain, died Monday morning, April 26, 1993, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wade Park Division, Cleveland.

He was born in Collins, Ark., and lived in Lorain the past four years, moving from Gary, Ind.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 675th Ammunition Company in France and England.

After his discharge in November 1945, he moved to Gary, where he worked for the Metal Thermint Chemical Inc., retiring after 39 years service. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed travel.

Survivors include his daughters Edwena Whitehead, with whom he made his home, and Clivetta Grayson, both of Lorain; sons Vernon of Lorain, and Marshall of Elyria; 20 grandchildren; a sister Charlie Mae Jones of Pine Bluff, Ark., a niece; and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by former wife, Nancy Ann Wilkes (nee Johnson).

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Home, 27th and Broadway, Lorain, where funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. Pastor Charles E. Frost of Wesley United Methodist Church, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
