A native of Alamance County, he was the loving husband of 71 years to Marion Patton Whittemore, who survives and the son of Clyde Atwood Whittemore and Madeline Ray Whittemore, both deceased.

Mr. Whittemore was a graduate of Alexander Wilson High School. At 18 years of age, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1944. He was stationed in Camp Wheeler, GA and Ft. Mead, MD, and was shipped to Italy. He served with the 205th Military Police Company in Italy. Enforced military laws, regulations, ordinances, maintained order, and controlled individuals and traffic in Caserta, Italy. Guarded the General Headquarters, Mediterranean Theater of Operations and participated in town patrols. Charlie was Honorably Discharged and ended his Army career at Fort Bragg, NC.

Charlie always put his family first and loved spending time with them. He was the owner and operator of B & C Grocery for 60 years. He will be remembered as a selfless, kindhearted man, who enjoyed serving his community.

In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include two daughters.

He was preceded in death by six sisters, Elizabeth Whittemore, Geneva Fitch, Cassie Setzer, Jackie Kendall, Betsy “Tippie” White and Thester Whittemore and four brothers, George “John” Whittemore, II, Clyde “Buster” Whittemore, Jr., James William “Bill” Whittemore and David Long “Dave” Whittemore.
