Benjamin Briggs Goodrich, son of Hollywood Oscar-winner Olivia deHavilland, and Marcus Goodrich, a Navy veteran, journalist, and author of the popular novel Delilah. Ben Goodrich, a graduate from the University of Texas, later formerly of Lockheed Aerospace, as statistical analyst, but had recently returned to academia, completing his studies, working on his doctorate . Goodrich was a descendent of early 19th-century American founder Benjamin Briggs Goodrich, who was among elected delegates representing Washington Municipality at the Convention of 1836 to discuss the coming secession and war with Mexico, and was put in charge of the roll of members, among those signing the Texas Declaration of Independence.

The junior Benjamin Briggs Goodrich (1949-1991) died of heart disease brought on by treatment for Hodgkin's Disease (with which he was diagnosed at age 19) in September 1991, at age 42 in Paris, France. Goodrich was survived by his mother Olivia DeHavilland, half-sister Gisèle Galante, and his father Marcus Goodrich, who died three weeks after his son.
