COLFAX -- Walter E. Walker, 84, of Colfax, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, in his residence. He was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Montgomery County, to William E. and Sarah Goodnight Walker. Mr. Walker served in the Army during World War II. On July 5, 1965, in Camdenton, Mo., he married Mary "Tillie" Scoggins. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1990. He and his wife lived in Tempe, Ariz., where he worked for Watson Powell as a groundskeeper. After his retirement, they returned to Jerseyville, Ill. In 1990, he moved to the Colfax area to be near his brother Wilbur and his family. Mr. Walker attended Colfax Wesleyan Church, where he was active in the trustee department. He was a gardener, an outdoors man, and enjoyed fixing things. Surviving are two children, George German (wife: Denise) and Deloris Peuterbaugh, both of Jerseyville, Ill. Friends may call4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Archer-Weston Funeral Home in Frankfort. Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Colfax Wesleyan Church, the Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Interment Monroe Cemetery. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were 3 brothers, 2 sisters, a grandson, a great-great-grandson and his son-in-law. Memorials appreciated to Colfax Wesleyan Church
