She was born Birdie Mae Morse on May 27, 1924 in Rosston, Nevada County, Arkansas. She married Luther Burton and had four children, Roy C. Burton, Martha Burton, Lee Burton and Bertha Burton. She also raised her six step children when their mother passed away at a very young age, Dock Nicholas Burton, Sr., Henry (Sonny)Burton, Luther Ed Burton, Ida Mae Burton, Lee Coy Burton, and Mazie Burton.


JUNE 17, 2017 TEXARKANA GAZETTE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE - THE TWIN CITIES CHAPTER OF TOP LADIES OF DISTINCTION HONORED SIX LIVING PEOPLE IN THEIR 9TH DECADE OF LIFE AT THE EIGHTH ANNUAL NONAGENARIAN CELEBRATION
The Twin Cities Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction honored six living people in their ninth decade of life at the eighth annual Nonagenarian Celebration on June 17, 2017 at the Texarkana Arkansas Independent School District Services Center. Honorees included, Lessie B. Green, Bertha Washington, Birdie Mae Griffin, L.C. Chatman, Almary Browning-Gaines and Nathaniel Biddle, Sr. were recognized.
