Leonard Clarence Adkins, 88, died Monday, August 20, 2007, at the home of his Daughter, Sarah Lee Reeves, in Okolona, Miss.
He was born July 29, 1919, in Macon, Georgia to the late James Lee and Johnnie Summers Adkins.
He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 1st Division, 5th Calvary Regiment. For his Valor and Bravery, he received the Purple Heart.
He was a Member of the Baptist Church.
Services were held at the Holland Harris Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, with Bro. Horace Barnes officiating. Burial was in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include 8 Children, Ronnie Adkins of Dorsey; Gary Adkins of Abbeville; Sarah Lee Reeves of Okolona; Sophia Beasley of Marietta; Billy Adkins of Okolona; Susan Dillary of Mantachie; Sam Adkins of Mooreville; and Lee Adkins of Nettleton; a Sister, Johnnie Saulters of Memphis; 19 Grand Children; and 13 Great Grand Children.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; 3 Wives, Roena Hill Adkins; Opal Harrison Adkins; and Inez Griggs Adkins; 2 Sons, Dnny Adkins and Steve Adkins; a Grand Child, Christy Beasley; 4 Brothers, Howard Adkins, Ford Adkins, Jimmy Adkins and Little Dan Adkins; and 3 Sisters, Kaptola Morris, Elaine Kilough and Peggy Adkins.
