Young Mother Takes Her Life
Greenwich, Conn. (AP) A young mother, wife of New York lawyer, a patient at a sanitarium here, escaped from her nurse at a beauty parlor yesterday, police were told, and threw herself in front of an express train. She was killed instantly.
The woman was identified as Mrs. Susan [sic] T. Alexander, 27 of Bernardsville, N. J. recently under care at Blythewood Sanitarium for a nervous disorder. Coroner John Clark declared her death a suicide after finding a note on the back of a check.
On the reverse side of a check bearing the name Archibald S. Alexander the woman had written: "Archie, Darling, I am incurable. Therefore death is better than being a perpetual drag on the children. Forgive me and take care of the children so that nothing like this will happen to them."
Married in 1929
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander were married June 24, 1929 in St. Bartholomews Church, New York City. Three children, S***, H*** and Archibald survive. In addition to the husband, two sisters, Mrs. James J. Wadsworth, Genesco, N.Y., and Mrs. Francis Kernan Jr. of New York. Also Mrs. Alexander's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin T. Tilton of New York City.
Mrs. Alexander was introduced to society in 1925 after attending Miss Chapin's and Miss Walker's schools in Simsbury, Conn. She was a member of the Junior League and shortly after her debut was introduce at the court of St. James.
Funeral services will be private.
Mr. Alexander took an interest in local politics and was a member of Bernardsville Council. His term expires Jan. 1.
