Funeral services for Ernest T. Kirkland, 59, president and treasurer of the Irwin Neisler & Co., who died at 4:30 a. m. Tuesday in the Decatur and Macon County Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p. m. Thursday in the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home with burial in Fairlawn cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home afternoon today until noon Thursday.
Mr. Kirkland was taken to the hospital May 9 following a heart attack. Born in Walshville, IL, on Oct. 13. 1888, he was the son of Hardin and Rhoda Lindley Kirkland. He came to Decatur at the age of four and attended public schools and Millikin University. He began work for the Irwin-Kirkland pharmaceutical company, operated by his father, at the age of 12. At 22 he became a member of the firm of Irwin, Neisler. & Co., working in the manufacturing department and as a traveling salesman. He has been president of the firm since 1925.
Mr. Kirkland leaves his wife, the former Eva Coberly, whom he married Sept. 15, 1914. A daughter, Margaret, died in infancy. The Kirklands had recently moved to their newly purchased home in Southmoreland place. A member of the South Side country club, Mr. Kirkland was an enthusiastic golfer. He also was a member of the Decatur Club, Country Club of Decatur and the Masonic lodge.
