Raymond I. Thompson was a descendant of one of Murrieta's pioneer families. Mr. Thompson, 77, died May 22, 2000 at Fallbrook Skilled Nursing Facility, 15 days after he suffered a stroke. Mr. Thompson was a founding member of the Murrieta Volunteer Fire Department and was Murrieta's first fire chief from 1947 to 1972. He lived in Murrieta for 51 years before moving to Fallbrook in 1974 where he has lived since then. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Norma Thompson of Fallbrook; sons and daughters-in-law Pat and Martha Thompson of Riverside and Mike and Raquel Thompson of Bakersfield.
