Glynn Houston HARRIS was born in Daingerfield Texas to Jasper Newton HARRIS and Ida Bell (COODY) HARRIS. Glynn appears to have been the 2nd youngest of at least five children born to Jasper & Ida Bell HARRIS. They were farmers living on Rt #1, Daingerfield, Morris county, Texas.

The Clark Cemetery is located slightly west of Jenkins TX which is 3 or 4 miles south of Daingerfield TX. Jenkins sits at the north end of the Ellison Creek Reservoir. This suggests that the family farm and church may have been south of Daingerfield TX where RR#1 was, perhaps midway between Daingerfield & Jenkins TX. Donations were directed to Lakeview Baptist Church. This church appears to be located on the east side of the Ellison Creek Reservoir (south & east of Jenkins) with a current address of 1291 Old Kaufman Rd, Canton TX 75103. (Phone 903-567-4787 www.LakesideCanton.com ) This further suggests the family may have lived south of Daingerfield TX on their farm.

—- WW2 war years - 1939-1941-1945 —-
Glynn apparently enlisted in the US Army on 10 June 1940, prior to the USA entry into WW2. His first period of military service is listed as 10 June 1940 to 1 Feb 1945. His eldest daughter said that Glynn was wounded in Sicily where he reported having a head wound and receiving a Purple Heart. This wound may have resulted in him being shipped back to the States and released on 1 Feb 1945.

He apparently returned to service because he completed a registration card on 6 Feb 1945 and it was stamped by the local draft board in Daingerfield, Morris County, Texas on 7 Feb 1945. So Glynn may have been briefly sent home to recuperate or on leave. The back side of that 1945 registration card shows his height as 5' 5" 140 pounds, gray eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion. The front of that registration card shows a Serial Number of S-67 and an Order Number S-1036A. He was 25 years old, so this was not a "Draft Registration Card" used for younger men.

In any event, he apparently wound up back overseas in Europe. The war in Europe ended in May 1945 and his 197th Field Artillery Brigade (?) returned on the Queen Mary troop ship. She departed on her trip WW#52W from Southampton England on 17 Aug 1945 and arrived in the New York City area on 21 Aug 1945 where she may have berthed at Ellis Island and Castle Gardens. Glynn was assigned to Charlie company and was listed as passenger #59 in that sub-unit. His MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) was listed as 844 on the passenger manifest. That means he was a "Gun Crewman, Light Artillery" http://ww2troopships.com/ships/q/queenmary/cruiserecord1945.htm

He may still have been in the Army, and that being post-WW2, he may have been assigned to Tooele Army Depot in Tooele County, Utah. A local newspaper article published a correction between Glynn HARRIS and another Glen Harris who had been fined. That correction states that Glynn was a fireman at the Tooele Ordnance Depot (TOD). At some point, Glynn must have separated from the Army for his second time. (Probably between 1946 and 1950.) His occupation in 1948 is listed as a Fireman at TOD (Civil Service).

--- Glynn's first family --- [1945 - 1950 in Tooele Utah]
Perhaps it was his Field Artillery assignment with the Army that brought Glynn to Tooele Utah circa 1945-1946 where he was listed as a fireman. In any event, he apparently met & married Mary Ellen (VALLIER) who had been born and raised in Engadine, Michigan. Maryellen initially left Michigan to attend college at Green Bay Business College in Wisconsin. During WW2, "Maryellen" moved west to Salt Lake City to attend college there and where she had relatives that worked at the Army's Tooele Ordnance Depot (TOD) in Tooele UT.

Mary Ellen VALLIER (20) first married (1945-1946?) Glynn Houston HARRIS (25) and their daughter, Glenda Maria HARRIS, was born in July 1947. Glenda's younger brother, Craig Houston HARRIS, was born in Dec 1948. The family was living in the "Kirk Hotel" in Tooele Utah where Maryellen worked at a [Chinese{?}] restaurant and Glynn worked at the Tooele Ordnance Depot (TOD) as a fireman. By 1950 they were divorced and shortly afterwards Glynn apparently moved east and settled in Shreveport, Caddo parish, Louisiana around 1950.

Craig and Glenda were taken in & primarily raised by Ed & Mary Albietz, the couple that babysat for, the then divorced, Maryellen (VALLIER) HARRIS. That couple, (Ed & Mary #3) moved the two children to St Louis MO for a period of time before moving west again to live in Henderson NV, and later Pahrump NV. Glenda & Craig have lived most of their lives in Nevada, but both were born in Tooele Utah. Craig was in the Navy & Glenda first married an Army man and lived in Virginia and Germany before returning to Nevada.
