Sales Executive, Former Motown Records President. Born Baldassare Ales. He was Berry Gordy’s right-hand man and the company’s ultimate insider. He become executive VIce President but stayed in Detroit in 1972, when Gordy moved Motown to California. Three years later, he rejoined Motown, and he served as its President from 1975 to 1978. Within months of his arrival at Motown, Motown landed its first No. 1 pop hit, the Marvelettes' "Please Mr. Postman." He died from natural causes.
