THERESA MURPHY RETIRED TEACHER
********************************************
LYNN-Theresa L. Murphy, 32 Baltimore St., a retired guidance councilor and sister of the late Catherine L. Murphy, onetime supervisor of elementary education in Lynn schools, died Thursday at Lynn Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Lynn, the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Burke) Murphy, she was a lifelong resident of the city, a graduate of Lynn schools and a graduate of Boston University and Columbia University, from which she received her masters degree.

She was guidance councilor at Classical for 38 years, retiring in 1968.

She joined the school system in 1922, when she was appointed a teacher at the Washington Community School, and later taught at the Ingalls School and English High.

She was a member of the board of directors at Lynn Hospital; Lynn Teachers' Association; Infant of Prague Guild; National Association of Retired Teachers, and the Sodality of St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott.

In addition, she was associated for many years with the Greater Lynn Chapter of the Red Cross.

She leaves five nephews, Warren T. Fuller of Salem, John
Murphy and Thomas Quirk Jr., both of Lynn, Bruce T. Fuller of Greenwich, Conn., and John Quirk of Long Island, N.Y., and three nieces, Mrs. Catherine Hobble of Maryland, Miss Mary Murphy and Mrs. Catherine Finnigan, both of Lynn.

She was the sister of the late John Murphy who owned the Central Wine and Liquor Store on Central Squire for many years.

The funeral will be held Monday at 8.a. from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., with a mass at 9 in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
